A Resident Assistant, or RA, is a peer leader who helps turn your residence hall into a place where people feel connected, supported, and at home. RAs live in the community alongside residents, build relationships, host engaging events, and serve as a go to resource when questions come up or support is needed. They play a key role in shaping the culture of the hall and helping residents navigate campus life.
RAs are supported by a professional Residential Life team, including a Hall Director and Assistant Hall Director, who provide guidance, oversight, and additional support for the community. Together, this team works to maintain a safe, welcoming environment, respond to concerns, coordinate building operations, and ensure residents have what they need to thrive.

Resident Assistants may choose to work supplemental desk shifts beyond the 4 required RA Desk Hours. Supplemental hours are paid using the Desk Assistant compensation schedule.
Note: Pay increases are not guaranteed. A raise is considered only after all criteria below are met:
If an RA is expected to work additional shifts in another department, authorization from the relevant department(s) and designated University officials is required. The RA must also remain within the 20-hour work limit for domestic and international students.

Attendance at all required training sessions is mandatory, with no exceptions.
The expectations outlined below provide a general overview of the Resident Assistant role. Additional responsibilities and position specific expectations will be communicated in detail during required training sessions and reinforced throughout the academic year. Each RA will receive ongoing guidance to ensure a clear understanding of their responsibilities within the Office of Residential Life at the University of New Orleans.

OAs are part-time student workers supporting the professional residential life team with administrative tasks during business hours (8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.). They play a crucial role in maintaining organized and confidential student records, as well as providing assistance to our residents and potential customers in various capacities.
New employees start at the entry level of the approved payroll schedule, with an hourly wage determined by hours worked.
Positions have an hour rate of $12.00, with a 0.25 cent raise every consecutive two semesters, with a positive performance evaluation.
To ensure continued eligibility for the position, individuals are required to work a minimum of 6 hours weekly, considered as "permanent" hours, allowing room for growth within the role.
Pontchartrain Hall offers around-the-clock front desks to support our residential students. Student desk assistants, employed by the Office of Residential Life, are stationed at these desks to deliver friendly and efficient customer service to both residents and guests of the halls.
